Frequently Asked Questions
What are your credentials and experience?
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2015 and my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seton Hall in 2018. I worked for a group therapy practice in New York City from 2019 until 2023 and then opened my practice. I am licensed to practice therapy in Texas and New York and have completed Level 2 Gottman training. You can learn more about The Gottman method.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I am paneled to accept insurance plans in Texas and New York through Headway and Alma. Please contact me to see if I can take your plan.
What are your fees if I decide not to use insurance?
For individual sessions-$150 per 55 min
For couples sessions-$200 per 55 min
(Sliding scale spots available; please contact with questions.)
What are the benefits of private pay vs insurance?
Utilizing insurance requires a mental health diagnosis on file, and your insurance company can access your medical records to assess the necessity of services, including your therapy notes. A diagnosis is not required for private pay, and your care is not limited to what your insurance deems medically necessary.
What should I expect from therapy?
Sessions are about 50-55 min long and usually happen once a week at the start of treatment, then slow down to every other week once improvements have been made and goals have been met. The first few sessions will be about identifying goals and exploring the current issue while discussing techniques to work on in between sessions. “Homework” is not a requirement, but many clients like to have something specific to practice until their next session. The length and frequency of treatment will vary depending on the client/s and their goals.
Do you offer text/email therapy?
No, text and emails are used for scheduling conversations only. I do not do therapeutic processing between sessions via email or text message as these are not HIPPA-protected platforms and ethically must preserve my client’s confidentiality.
Isn’t therapy overly focused on the past, while life coaching is focused on my future goals?
Absolutely not! When relevant, it can be helpful in therapy to understand and process your feelings about past events, as these may be influencing your current issues. Still, therapy is absolutely about working toward your best self and creating change in your life or relationship right now.
Can I be your client if I live elsewhere besides Texas or New York?
Unfortunately not! The current laws around tele-therapy have changed significantly since the pandemic. Still, licensed therapists are only permitted to see clients who are full-time residents in the state(s) they hold a therapy license for. Let me know if you would like my help locating a therapist in your state.
Will you testify in court for any reason, including custody decisions or workers’ compensation?
No, as I am not a forensic evaluator, which is outside my scope of practice. To introduce documentation from couples therapy work, I need a signed release from both partners and will decline, if possible, to provide to protect client confidentiality. Please let me know during a consult or first session if you are currently involved with any legal matters or if you anticipate you will be affected.
